Roger L. Marts, 67

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home in Barrington, where there will be visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.






Roger L. Marts, 67, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Silverado Senior Living in Lake Zurich.

Roger was born Nov. 26, 1945, in Elkhart, Iowa.

Roger had a successful career in the apparel industry beginning with earning an “Outstanding Retail Graduate” designation from Drake University in 1968. He went on to become a retail apparel sales executive for Dayton’s in Minneapolis, Rich’s and Davison’s (Macy’s) in Atlanta, Elder-Beerman in Dayton, Ohio (1968-1983), a wholesale apparel manufacturer executive for Kellwood in Atlanta and Chicago, and Hagale in Chicago (1983-1998).

Most recently, Roger worked in retail apparel sales for Jos. A. Bank in Chicago until his retirement in 2009.

Roger loved spending time with his family and working outside. Animals, especially golden retrievers, brought him great joy.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary (nee Dorschner) Marts, whom he married July 6, 1968; children, Eric (Heather Howard) Marts of Cary and Amy Marts of Chicago; grandson, Ryan Marts; and sisters, Joyce (Jess) Watkins of Scottsdale, Arizona and Julie (Jim) Chamberlain of Murray, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger L. and Avis H. Marts of Murray Iowa.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, where there will be visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

The Reverend Erik D. Neider of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crystal Lake will officiate.

Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
