Remembering some Crystal Lake residents who recently passed away.

Frank Lemke—February 10, 1925 - April 15, 2011

Mr. Lemke, 86, of Crystal Lake, entered into new life Friday, April 15, 2011, in Woodstock.

He was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Chicago, to Arthur and Julia Lemke.

He married Barbara (Fox) on May 2, 1953, in Chicago.

He and his family travelled extensively throughout the Pacific West Coast, where he and Barb especially enjoyed San Francisco, Washington State and Hawaii. He often enjoyed listening to jazz music and sportscasts of the Cubbies; though next to baseball, he also enjoyed a good game of golf. He truly loved driving around from one garage or rummage sale to the next trying to find the best bargain to bring home. He will be remembered as being a Navy veteran, and for the compassionate love that he gave to his family. He truly will be missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his cherished children, Thomas (Theresa) Lemke, Jerry (Kathy)Lemke, Frank Lemke and Judy, nee Lemke, Swett; his adored grandchildren, Tom (Angela) Lemke, Krissy(Scott) Starwalt, Dan (Carrie) Lemke and Amy (Hansen) Voss; his loving great-grandchildren, Rebekah Starwalt, Timothy Starwalt, Evan Scholl and Madison Lemke; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Lemke.

 

Margaret Elaine Laisy—October 28, 1932 - April 17, 2011

Margaret E. Laisy, 78, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at her home.

Born October 28, 1932 in Stockton, Illinois, she was the daughter of Herbert L. and Laura M (nee Morgan) Lahey. She married Thor A. Laisy on October 29, 1960 in Chicago; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October, 2010.

After attending high school at Sinsinawa Catholic School in Wisconsin, she furthered her education at the University of Illinois and graduated from Rosary College in River Forest with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Her career in education spanned more than 30 years. She was a primary teacher in Chicago and worked in special education and taught at Thunderbird Nursery School in Crystal Lake for many years.

A woman of many interests, she enjoyed painting, drawing, sewing, music (she played the guitar and piano), reading, birds, dogs, travel, camping, exercise and the outdoors. She was a long time member of the Catholic church. A very giving person, she volunteered at church and school and was a Camp Fire Girl troop leader.

Margaret touched many lives through her teaching and volunteer work. Her greatest happiness was time spent with her husband, daughter and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Thor A. Laisy of Crystal Lake; her daughter, Laura Elizabeth Yelle of Crystal Lake; and her grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah and Zachary Yelle, all of Crystal Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Burial was held at Greenwood Cemetery.

 

Betty Jane Karson—August 30, 1930 - April 27, 2011

Betty Jane Karson, 80, of Crystal Lake, IL, died April 27, 2011, at Centegra Hospital of McHenry.

She was born August 30, 1930 in Chicago to Kenneth and Julie (nee Svientek) Healy. She married her high school sweetheart on August 2, 1952 at St. Constance Church in Chicago.

Betty received her Bachelor’s degree in Education and also in Art from Mundelein College. She began her career, teaching primary grades in the Chicago School System; and after raising her family, she became a realtor in the Northwest Suburbs.

She loved to paint and she exhibited in local art shows. Card playing was a favorite pastime with long time friends.

Betty loved animals; she was especially fond of her dogs, Toto and Bonnie, as well as her cats, Smokey and Spikey.

Most of all, she enjoyed her family and adored her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Steve; children, Steve Jr. (Christine) Karson, Lisa Ann (George) Bach, and son-in-law, Patrick Gries; her loving grandchildren, Brandon Bach, Karson Gries, Kenneth Bach, Lindsay Karson, Emily Sue Gries, Alex Bach, Chelsea Karson, Anneliese Gries, Ashley Bach and Liam Gries; her aunt, Sylvia Rakowski, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Allyson Sue Gries; father, Kenneth Healy; mother, Julie Bakula and her step-father, William Bakula,

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at Centegra Hospital of McHenry for their care and support.

Burial was held at Calvary Cemetery in Woodstock, IL.

 

Richard Alvin Jumbeck—November 27, 1950 - March 30, 2011

Rich was born on November 27, 1950 to Bernard and Minnie Jumbeck in Chicago, IL.

For over 30 years, he worked in materials management at several manufacturing companies. Rich was an avid golfer and gardener and was known to his family as a handyman and woodworker. An enthusiastic HGTV viewer and power tool collector, he used his skills to create a fish pond in the backyard of his home, much to his and his family’s enjoyment. Rich was a selfless person who put the needs of others before his own, a true “class act”. He took pleasure in celebrating with family and friends at get togethers.

His survivors include his loving wife Dawn; children, Hilary “Fuzzer” Jumbeck, Tyler “Ace” Duffy, Connor “Goose” Duffy and Jeromy Jumbeck; grandchildren, Tyler, Samantha and Courtney Jumbeck; brothers, Bernard (Sandra) Jumbeck, Robert “Bobbo” (Trish) Jumbeck, Gerald “Little Jerry” Jumbeck, Eugene (Christine) Jumbeck, Kevin (David) Jumbeck; mother-in-law, Kaye Hahn, many loving family and friends.

 

John H. Jensen—October 28, 1922 - May 08, 2011

John H. Jensen, 88 of Algonquin entered eternal life Sunday, May 8, 2011 in Crystal Lake.

He was born Oct. 28, 1922 in Duluth, Mn to Marius and Naemi (nee Ruhnberg) Jensen.

John was the beloved husband for 60 years to the late Corinne (nee Erickson), loving father of Betty (Roy) Deans, dear grandfather of Christine (Jeremy) Krick , great-grandfather of Madelyn Krick, brother of Dagney Jensen.

He was preceded in death by his wife and sister Eleanor Jensen.

John served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1943 until 1946 and graduated from University of Minnesota in 1949. John loved to travel and camp with his wife and close friends, often to Europe, Florida, and South Carolina.

Interment was held at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
