Maynard 'Red' White, 76, of Crystal Lake

Maynard “Red” White, 76, of Crystal Lake, formerly of McHenry and Schiller Park, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, in Crystal Lake. 

Red was born Jan. 26, 1937, in Chicago to the late Maynard and Margery (nee Williams) White.

He married Joanne Maday on Sept. 22, 1956, in Chicago. 

He was a 1954 graduate of Steinmetz High School, Chicago.

Red had many fond memories of “Grace Street” in Chicago. He worked for R.B. Hayward Company for over 40 years, and retired from there as a superintendent. He was a member of Sheet metal Workers’ Local #73. Red worked on many of the landmark buildings that make up Chicago’s famous skyline. 

Red loved working on and restoring cars—especially his ’67 Camaro. He was an avid water and snow skier, runner, certified scuba diver, and enjoyed riding his bicycle.

Red also enjoyed his garden, traveling, and camping, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was known for his sincerity, honesty, and—as quoted by a good friend—if you look in the dictionary under gentleman, you will find Red’s name. 

Survivors include his wife, Joanne; daughters, Debbie (Kurt) Miller of Algonquin and Denise (John) Lindquist of McHenry; and grandchildren, Jeff (Nicole Szulc-Cieplicki) and Andi (Beau Sanchez) Miller and Brenna, Ryan, Kyle, and Raina Lindquist. 

In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his sister, Joan (Ed) Rossi. 

The visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Route 176, Crystal Lake, where the funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. 

The burial will be private in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.
