Mae Schwartzenberg Dies at 100

Services Wednesday for Deerfield resident

Mae Schwartzenberg, 100, an eight year citizen of Deerfield and a lifelong resident of the Chicago area, died Sunday.

Though Schwartzenberg worked at several jobs during her life, her primary focus was home and family.

“The most important thing was her family,” her son Al Schwartzenberg of Glenview said. “She was always there to take care of us. That was the most important thing in her life.”

Born in Chicago in 1912, Schwartzenberg lived in different neighborhoods of Chicago until moving to Glenview and eventually Deerfield, eight years ago. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred for over 39 years.

In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Mari Ann Schwartzenberg, she is survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a brother.

She was the proud grandmother of Julie (Jeff) Fisher and Lynn (Larry) Glickman as well as the cherished great-grandmother of Libby, Eliana, and Sophie. She was the dear sister of Harold (Harriette) Warren and the late Tom, Ann, Irving, and Helen.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Congregation B'nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim, 1201 Lake Cook Road in Deerfield with burial following at Shalom.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midwest Palliative & Hospice Center, 2050 Claire Court, Glenview or BJBE. Arrangements are made by Chicago Jewish Funerals (847-229-8822).
