Karen J. Altendorf, 78, of Cary; Mother, Grandmother, Former Scout Leader

Visitation is Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m. and concluding with a service at 11 a.m. at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary.

Karen Jean Altendorf, age 78, of Cary, passed away Dec. 28, 2013, at her home. 

"Mom is now able to join Dad eternally. We have great comfort knowing he was there to show her the way. We love her so much and will miss her, as we miss Dad every single day. 

Mom, rest in peace in Dad’s arms and in our hearts."

Karen retired after a career with AT&T. She was an avid golfer, card player and Cub fan. She also spent many years as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by four children: Mary Ann (Thomas) Gilson, Michael Robert (Tammy) Altendorf, Susan Marie (Joseph) Gualano and James Vernon (Lauralee) Altendorf.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Michael, Jonathan, Benjamin, Josie Grace, Grace Yuan, Tony, Joseph and Amanda; and a brother Joseph (Cleo) Bradford.

A special thanks to friends and caregivers: Gift, David, Rachel and Edward.

Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Altendorf.

Visitation is Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m. and concluding with a service at 11 a.m. at the Kahle-Moore Funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary.
