Joy Monek (nee Feldman), 62, of Cary

A celebration of Joy's life will be held on Jan. 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Davenport Funeral Home, 419 E. Route 176, Crystal Lake, Illinois, 815-459-3411.

Joy Monek (nee Feldman), 62 of Cary, Illinois and formally of Margate, New Jersey, died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 21, surrounded by her loving family after a one-year battle with lung cancer. 

She faced this disease with courage and dignity to the end. 

Joy was born in Atlantic City, N.J. on Sept. 24,1951.

She was a graduate of Atlantic City High, Harcum College and the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania.

Joy was a cytologist at Centegra Health System for 17 years before her illness. Joy was a member of the American Society of Cytopathology. 

She was an award winning member of the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and the Northern Illinois Hunter Jumper Association with many trophies and ribbons for excellence in her field. 

Predeceased by her father Robert Feldman, Joy is survived by her mother Kathryne Feldman, son Francis Monek, daughter Heather Monek, twin brother Richard Feldman (Olga), sister Karen Summers Lyons (Steve), many cousins, nieces and nephews as well as her horses, Impressive Image and Logan, furry friends Gunner and Jax. 

Joy was a loving and very caring daughter, mother, sister and friend who will live in many hearts forever.
