Elroy P. Fitzgerald, 83, of Cary; D155 Board Member, Veteran, Coach, Referee

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cary. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 320 Jefferson St., Algonquin.


Elroy P. Fitzgerald Sr., 83, of Cary, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at his home. He was born July 18, 1929, in Cary, according to Legacy.com/Northwest Herald.

He was a lifelong resident of Cary, 1947 graduate of Crystal Lake Community High School, District 155 school board member for 28 years, co-founder of Cary Youth Baseball, official referee for 54 years, baseball coach, and member of the Cary Historical Society and McHenry County Historical Society, according to Legacy.com/NW Herald.

He was a Korean War Veteran, life member of the Raymond Wascher Post 276 of Cary, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His greatest honor was having the gym at Cary-Grove High School named after him, according to Legacy.com/NW Herald.
