Carolyn Cox Mahoney split from her long-time husband after what she calls years of abuse. Her wealthy ex-husband, Billy Cox, was soon convicted of attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. He's currently serving a 20-year sentence in Dixon.
Last year a judge ordered Carolyn Cox Mahoney to pay back $75,852.76 to her ex-husband or serve 90 days in jail.

Cox, 71, was convicted in November 2007 of attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. He was accused of beating Mahoney in the face with a blunt object and then locking her in a garage with the cars running.
According to the divorce settlement, Mahoney was supposed to transfer funds from an IRA account to Cox.
In June 2011, Mahoney accused her ex-husband of attempting to hire someone to kill her.
