Crystal Lake Park District Hosts Teen Battle of the Bands-Bands Invited to Perform and Spectators Welcome!

Local teen bands are needed to compete at the Crystal Lake Park District Battle of the Bands on Friday, June 7 at Main Beach.

The best teen bands in the Crystal Lake area will take the stage at the Crystal Lake Main Beach band shell on Friday, June 7 to compete in the Crystal Lake Park District Battle of the Bands contest. Spectators of all ages are invited from 3-9 pm to offer their support, cheer on their favorite band and enjoy this beautiful lakeside concert venue. Admission for spectators is $5.

There are still spots open for bands wishing to participate and for individuals who wish to be considered as a contest judge. Preference is given to bands with members that reside in Crystal Lake, but if space permits, all bands will be considered. Call Connie Cooke at (815) 459-0680, ext. 213 or email ccooke@crystallakeparks.org for more information.

Connie Cooke, Battle of the Bands Event Coordinator anticipates that 5-7 local teen bands will be competing for the winner title and the opportunity to compete in the Regional Battle of the Bands Qualifier (location, time and date to be determined).  The winner of the Regional competition will then continue on to the State Final Battle of the Bands, to be held at the Illinois State Fair in August 2013. In addition, each band member will receive a Battle of the Bands T-Shirt, a goody bag with items provided our event sponsors, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners receive a cash prize.

All genres of music are typically represented by the bands that enter to compete. Last year’s winner was The Skelters, a funk-rock band, influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jimi Hendrix.

The 2013 Battle of the Bands is judged by 3-5 volunteers with a music background or music interest.  In the past we have had representatives from a recording studio, music stores and artists in the music industry. The bands are judged in 5 categories on a scale of 1-10. Each band performs for approximately 30 minutes.
