Salvation Army Needs Bell Ringers

Bell ringers and volunteers needed for the annual Red Kettle Campaign.

The Salvation Army of McHenry County has raised about 45 percent of its goal for this year's Red Kettle Campaign.

Only eight days remain in the church's annual fundraiser, and the Salvation Army is seeking volunteers to ring bells at area kettles.

"Experience the joy of knowing you're helping the needy right here in McHenry County," Linda Hunter, community relations coordinator for the Salvation Army-McHenry County, said in a news release.

"Your family, company, church, school or group can Adopt-A-Kettle for the day. It is great team building and a great way to ring in the season!"

Hunter said just five volunteers can do one day's worth of bell-ringing. Two-hour shifts is all it takes, she said.

The Salvation Army's goal for its 2013 kettle campaign is $150,000.

Any person, group or organization wanting to volunteer as a bell ringer should call the Salvation Army office at 815-455-2769 to volunteer for two or more hours, or stop by the army's office at at 290 W. Crystal Lake Ave. in Crystal Lake.

The Red Kettle Campaign runs through Dec. 24, but the Salvation Army will continue to accept mail and credit card donations through Jan. 15.
