Hundreds Spend Thanksgiving Morning at Community Harvest in Crystal Lake

Volunteers turn out by the hundreds for annual Community Harvest in Crystal Lake.

The photograph looks like it could have been taken at a Black Friday shopping rush.

But this crowd wasn't looking to buy - they were looking to give.

Hundreds of volunteers woke up early Thanksgiving morning to volunteer their time at the annual Community Harvest food packing event in Crystal Lake.

Businesses, churches, schools, area clubs and organizations hosted food collection drives over the past several weeks. Those groups dropped off the donations this past week, and those attending the Community Harvest pack the food and supplies for storage.

Hopefully, the donations will keep the Crystal Lake Food Pantry supplied throughout the winter months.

Community Harvest is coordinated by the joint efforts of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, Crystal Lake Jaycees and the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.
