Nevin Runge had her first seizure when she was 10 months old. At age 2 1/2 she was diagnosed with epilepsy. By age 4 she was experiencing 250 to 500 debilitating seizures per day despite the many different medications that were tried and failed.

After months of worsening seizures and horrible side-effects from medication, her parents, April and Chris, finally convinced the doctor to try a medical dietary therapy treatment called the Ketogenic diet. Four months later Nevin was seizure free. Now 10 years old, she is active in school and at the First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake.

Nevin's mother, April, co-authored the award-winning Gordy and the Magic Diet. She is a partner in Special Kids Enterprises LP which publishes children's books targeted to special needs children and their families. She is also Senior Research Director for North Star (Market) Research.

When asked which of the modern "fruits of the spirit" appealed most to her, April immediately said "Gratitude!" She will speak about her family's journey at all three worship services. First Congregational Church is located at 461 Pierson St, Crystal Lake.
