CL Central Wins Centennial Winter Fest Ice Sculpture Contest

Crystal Lake Central High School won the honor of having its school mascot, the tiger, carved from a block of ice during the Dec. 7 Centennial Winter Festival in Crystal Lake.

Crystal Lake Central High School was the winner in the Centennial Winter Festival ice sculpture contest.

The contest was held between Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Prairie Ridge high schools.

People were asked to vote online for their favorite school. The contest prize was having their favorite school's mascot shaped out of a block of ice during the Dec. 7 festival held at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park and Main Beach in Crystal Lake.

Crystal Lake Central had the most votes, according to Anne O'Hara, of the Crystal Lake Chamber.

The ice sculpture artist created a tiger on the day of the festival. The tiger remains on display in front of the Dole Mansion/ Lakeside Legacy Arts Park, 401 Country Club Rd., Crystal Lake. (The tiger will be around weather permitting).

The other ice sculptures brought in for the festival remain on display on the Lakeside lawn. Guess are permitted to stop by and see the artwork.
