McHenry County Department of Health will hold a shingles clinic on Friday March 2 from 8:30am-3:30pm at its Crystal Lake office (100 N Virginia Street). Appointments are required at 815-334-4536. The cost is $200 (cash, check or credit card accepted).
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommends anyone 60 years of age or older should get the "one time" vaccination for shingles, regardless of whether they recall having had chickenpox or not. Studies show that more than 99% of Americans ages 40 and older have had chickenpox, even if they don't remember getting the disease.
