Predict the Oscars Contest Announces Winner at Tivoli Theatre

Speeches were made, “selfies”
taken, pizza shared and the 2014 Oscars ceremony has now come to a close. After
hours of sorting and counting, Classic Cinemas is proud to announce the winners
of the annual “Predict the Oscars”
contest
. Clarendon Hills resident Irene Mackiewicz takes home the prize for the Tivoli
Theatre, and will receive a yearlong movie pass for one valid at any Classic
Cinemas theatre, and two passes to the Brookfield Zoo.  Mackiewicz submitted her
ballot at the Tivoli Theatre, located at
5021 Highland Avenue in downtown Downers Grove, IL

“This
year’s group of Oscar winners was a bit ‘more predictable’ than others, which
opened the field for more patrons to receive prizes for their correct
predictions,” explained Classic Cinemas Vice President Chris Johnson. “We were
quite impressed by the number of patrons who participated in our annual Oscar
contest, and are pleased that movies continue to engage, enlighten and
entertain our loyal customers.”

This
year, winners range from 27 to 80 years old, and over 7,608 ballots were cast during
the six-week contest. In order to win, customers needed to predict all seven
categories correctly:  Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting
Actress and Best Animated Film.

Mackiewicz
is a loyal Tivoli fan who visits the theater most Saturday evenings with her
husband.  “We love the beautifully
restored auditorium and the staff is wonderful. We recommend it whenever we can
to our friends and family. We’re at the Tivoli so often that we earned tickets
to their classic holiday film series based on the points we accrued!” she
declared.

“We
saw most of the nominated films, but I knew that ’12 Years a Slave’ would be
too difficult for me to watch.  Based on
the reviews and other comments, I felt it should win,” Mackiewicz explains. “My
favorite film was ‘American Hustle,’ with its great acting, good storyline,
lots of humor and plot twists. I also liked ‘Gravity,’ with the technology and
good acting by Sandra [Bullock].”

Mackiewicz
is a previous Predict The Oscar Contest winner, being the only entrant in 1996
at the Tivoli to guess all categories correctly, and then winning the following
year when many other participants also submitted accurate ballots.

Classic
Cinemas received 255 correct ballots this year, and each of the 13 theatres
selected one winner from the correct ballots at that location. The remaining
correct ballots entered at the North Riverside Mall Theatre will receive a pair
of movie passes to any Classic Cinemas location and a pair of tickets to the
Brookfield Zoo.
