IL.  The art show encourages guests to

attend and donations to the foundation are appreciated. The First Friday art
shows are also family friendly.

The September 6th Exhibit is titled 'Visage: Out of the
Ordinary Portraits'. The September exhibit is a showcase of 14 artists. The
exhibit features many artistic mediums including photography, mixed media,
sculpture, and oils. View the talents of these artists and experience the
diversity in how a person’s face can tell unique stories. The artists in this
exhibit submitted an artist application and submissions juried to be accepted
into the showcase.

Featuring the work of 14 artists, the ‘Visage’ exhibit
will take viewers on a journey through portraits. One of the exhibiting artists
is Ginnie Lang and her artist statement included a quote from Garret Habbard
stating, “…photojournalism is…more than a photograph. Photojournalism is a
relationship, a catalyst for change, and it is ever changing yet still the
same. Great visual storytelling can hit us in the heart and leave an indelible
mark.” Ginnie Lang said, “One of my most sincere ambitions is to see my
photography used to change lives.” Lang partnered with International Aid
Services (www.ias-america.org), a
non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the world through
micro-lending, as well as other types of humanitarian assistance. Under IAS’s
banner, she had the opportunity to visit Ghana, documenting the positive
impacts through the work of IAS in the region. Her images in the September 6th
art show at Lakeside reflects stories of hope, betterment and triumph over
appalling circumstances. Through local partnerships and the IAS micro-loans,
the people she photographed in Ghana are experiencing an increase in quality of
life. They are now able to provide better housing and food for their families,
can purchase mandatory uniforms for their school aged children, allowing them
to attend school, and grow their respective businesses.

Lang said, “My passion for photography has evolved over
the years into an attempt to capture the essence of a subject’s soul in the
fraction of time it takes for the shutter to snap. I strive to capture images
that will awaken in all of us the desire to reach outside ourselves and extend
a hand.” Lang’s powerful mini-exhibit is just one of the 14 remarkable artists
who will share ‘out of the ordinary portraits’. The public is encouraged to
attend this extraordinary exhibit from 5pm-8pm on September 6th at Lakeside
Legacy Arts Park at the Historic Dole Mansion.
