Veteran Larry Kaifesh Files for 8th District Republican Primary

First-Time candidate Larry Kaifesh, of Carpentersville, filed with more than three times the minimum signature requirement.

Larry Kaifesh, a first-time candidate and Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, filed his petitions Monday to seek the Republican nomination for the 8th Congressional District in the March 18 primary election.

"I want to thank so many friends, family, and supporters for helping us get on the ballot," said Kaifesh. "For someone who is running for office the first time, I appreciate that so many people in the 8th District share our concern to send real leadership to Washington that will get results."

Kaifesh filed with approximately 1,500 signatures at the Illinois State Board of Elections in Springfield. This amount is more than three times the minimum signature requirement to file for the 8th Congressional District, which is currently represented by Democrat Tammy Duckworth, of Hoffman Estates.

"We work hard to raise a family or build a life in a country that allows for immense opportunity, but the policies in Washington do not reflect that. I am not running to be a politician, but to be a leader who will go to Congress to protect our jobs, our families, and our country," said Kaifesh.

Kaifesh holds a B.A. in Psychology from Indiana University and a M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College. His military awards include the Bronze Star, Navy Commendation Medal with "V" for Valor in combat, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal. Larry Kaifesh currently resides in Carpentersville, where he attends St. Monica's Catholic Church.
