Cary Park District To Celebrate New Community Trail

Residents are invited Saturday, May 14 to celebrate the 1.8 mile trail connection with games and activities.

The Cary Park District plans to host a Trail Celebration for the new Cary Community Trail link from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14

For this event, residents can access the trail from Cary-Grove Park, Cary Junior High, or the Mink Trail.

“This 1.8 mile trail links a large portion of the northeast section of the Village of Cary,” Katie Hughes, Director of Communications & Marketing, said in a press release. “This link connects four schools, the library, two Cary Park District parks, Foxford Hills Golf Club, and two subdivisions.”

The Construction of the trail began in 2010 and was funded in part by an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant and with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The trail has been open since November 2010.

Hughes said, "The total cost of the project is roughly $800,000."

In 2006 the park district was awarded a $409,000 Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant. and in 2009 the park district secured an additional $292,000 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
