Cars, Garage Damaged by Fire in Crystal Lake

Fire was reported Wednesday night at a home on South Street.

 

Two cars and a garage suffered extensive damage during a fire on Wednesday night in Crystal Lake.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was called to a home at 146 South St., at about 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, to the report of a house fire. South Street is located in the downtown area near Crystal Lake Central High School.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found two cars burning in the driveway, according to CLFRD Battalion Chief Thomas G. Pollnow. The cars were parked in the driveway and the fire was extending to the garage in front of the cars, he said.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and managed to contain it to the garage portion of the home.

A civilian was treated for injuries on the scene and released.

No other injuries were reported.

Initial damage estimate is $43,000, Pollnow said in a release. 

The residents were displaced from the home due to the fire, smoke and water damage, he said. The Red Cross was assisting the residents.
