Liberty Tax Service in McHenry to offer free tax preparation to certain groups in March
Liberty Tax Service in McHenry is offering free tax preparation services for certain groups of individuals during specific weeks in March. The tax office is located at 5017 W. Elm St. (Illinois Route 120) in McHenry.
On the week of March 3-9, the tax office will offer free tax preparation for police, firefighters and EMTs. From March 10-16, the tax office will offer free tax preparation for nurses, medical technicians and hospital employees.
Senior citizens will be offered free tax preparation at the tax office during the week of March 17-23. Then, from March 24-30, the tax office will waive tax preparation fees for charitable volunteers and non-profit employees.

The free tax preparation services will only be offered to individuals from each group who are first-time customers of the tax office and during the specific week the promotion is offered for that group. The free tax preparation applies only to individual tax returns, not business or corporate returns.
“This is a great way for Liberty Tax to honor those individuals whose tireless contributions make McHenry County the vibrant and growing county it is today,” said Eric Mason, owner of Liberty Tax Service in McHenry. “We want to take the stress of tax preparation off of peoples’ minds.”

Originally from Marquette, Mich., Mason has owned and operated Liberty Tax Service in McHenry since November 2011. A U.S. Navy veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm, Mason obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1999. He later obtained a master’s degree in accounting from DeVry University in October 2010 and a master’s MBA from DeVry in February 2012. He obtained his CPA certification in February 2011.
Mason is knowledgeable in QuickBooks, accounting, payroll and bookkeeping. In addition to his tax business, Mason has worked as a staff accountant for Volkswagon Credit in Libertyville since May 2002. He currently lives in the Round Lake area.
