Whole Foods Kildeer Location Opens Soon

The new Whole Foods Market, 20281 N. Rand Rd., Kildeer, will open on March 6. The destination-grocer, focusing on organic and sustainable products, will hold an opening ceremony and doors will open at 9 a.m.

Kildeer Village Manager Michael Talbett said Whole Foods store openings are a big event with people waiting in line for hours to get in. 

Opening day details are still being worked out, said Tanya Kostetsky, marketing and community relations specialist for Whole Foods. 

 “We will definitely be providing food, refreshments and entertainment to make the opening morning be a celebration for the community. Doors open at 9, ceremony/ bread breaking at 8:45 a.m. We literally break bread with members of the village and Whole Foods Market team members-- delicious challah bread to be specific,” Kostetsky said. 

Palatine Whole Foods Store to Close

Whole Foods is planning to close its Palatine store, just two miles south of the new location, on March 5, and open the new store the following morning.
“We don’t want anyone to go without Whole Foods for a day,” Kostetsky said. 

Kostetsky said Whole Foods decided to relocate in 2006. “The great thing about the Kildeer store is that it was built from the ground up, so we could customize it. Regardless of size, Whole Foods is designed to be intimate,” she said.

The new store will be approximately 40,000 square feet, which is about 10,000 more square feet than the Palatine store. The staff will grow by about 40 team members. Check out available jobs at Whole Foods. The store will include a taco and sandwich bar and a fresh made pizza station.

Whole Foods' Palatine Store Draws from Crystal Lake

Of the Chicagoland Whole Foods stores, the Kildeer/Palatine store draws guests from the widest geographic range.

Kostetsky said the store has many guests that come from the Crystal Lake area. She said some of the shoppers are so far north that their next closest Whole Foods store is in Madison, Wis.

Move to Kildeer Brings Lower Tax Rate

Another plus to moving into Lake County will be a lower tax rate for shoppers, Kostetsky said. In Palatine, the tax rate is 9.5 percent; in Kildeer it is 7.5 percent. 

“Whole Foods Market celebrates with its shoppers the joy of eating and living well. Customers rely on us for the freshest, most flavorful, highest quality organic and natural products on the planet - from everyday value items to unique specialty products," Kostetsky said.

She explained that each Whole Foods store is individually designed and operated for the needs of the specific community it serves. "We seek out as many artisan foods, dry goods, meats, seafood and fresh fruits and vegetables as possible from local growers and suppliers," she said.

She added that team members provide customers with a level of personal service and product information that is hard to find in average supermarkets.

Whole Foods Market stores are actively involved in their communities. Each store has “five percent days” throughout the year with five percent of proceeds on a dedicated day going to community not-for-profit organizations in the neighborhood.

"Our current plan is to let our guests vote on Facebook to nominate who they would like to see receive our first 5 percent day at Kildeer. We are looking forward to continuing partnerships with organizations in Palatine as well as new organizations in the Lake Zurich/Crystal Lake area," Kostetsky said.
