Walmart Workers Hold Black Friday Protests; 10 Arrested at Chicago Store Protests

Employees and supporters at Walmart stores throughout the country are protesting on this Black Friday what they say are "poverty wages."

While many consumers are heading to local stores in search of Black Friday deals, workers and supporters at Walmart stores throughout the country are holding protests "to end the store's poverty wages."

Giovanna Frank-Vitale, a public affairs spokesperson representing the workers, has been sending continuous news releases relating to the workers' position for the past week.

According to a news release Vitale issued Friday morning, the Rev. Ed Middelton, a pastor at First Community Church in Dallas, Texas, was one the protesters arrested this morning.

"Walmart makes billions of dollars in profit while paying workers so little that many cannot afford Thanksgiving dinner," Middelton was quoted in the news release. "It shows a complete disregard for employees and their families. Walmart’s business model is morally indefensible, and we won’t stand for it.”

In Chicago, at least ten were arrested this morning, in one of four protests at Walmart stores within the city limits.

In Dallas Ft. Worth, workers and community supporters just sat down in an intersection in the city, resulting in 13 arrests.

In Chicago, at least ten were arrested this morning, in one of four protests at Walmart stores within the city limits.
