The first Patch Picks column.

Starting today, Patch will run a new weekly feature called Patch Picks, highlighting editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more.

You’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girlfriend nights out, kids party places, parks and more. Without further ado, here is our first list on Crystal Lake Patch.

  • Finn McCool’s Irish Sports Pub, 72 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake, has more than 60 televisions. Finn McCool’s is known for its macaroni and cheese and homemade potato chips.
  • Offsides Sports Bar & Grill, 680 S. Eastwood Dr., Woodstock, is having a Super Bowl Pig Roast.
  • Halftime Pizza and Ribs, 2405 W. Johnsburg Rd., Johnsburg, has a sports motif and deep-dish pizzas. In the summer, it’s known for its sandlot volleyball leagues. But Sunday, everybody will be huddled around televisions, watching the game.
  • Firewood Restaurant & Sports Lounge, 2314 N. Rt. 120, McHenry, will have a number of NFL veterans on hand signing autographs, including former Bear players Revie Sorey, Glen Kozlowski and Bruce Herron.
  • 7 Jandus Rd., Cary, has a small, comfortable bar area and plenty of televisions that are perpetually tuned to sports. They most assuredly will have the Super Bowl tuned in. Try the calamari and the linguini and clam sauce.

Some runner ups for those who are willing to travel a bit out of the area to watch the game include:

The Brat Stop, just five minutes north of the Illinois-Wisconsin border in Kenosha on U.S. 94.  Have a beer, a brat and sauerkraut, and watch the game. Packers and Bears memorabilia adorn the walls. All are welcome.
