T.G.I. Friday's Closes; Texas Roadhouse Prepares to Move In

Casual dining spot will be replaced by Texas Roadhouse.

Good-bye Jack Daniels rib platters and pecan-crusted chicken salad.

T.G.I. Friday's has officially closed its doors at its Crystal Lake location, 835 Cog Circle. Gone are the red and white striped awnings, collectible decor, and cheerful wait staff that served customers at the restaurant since 2002.

However, the building won't sit vacant for long.

The Texas Roadhouse has staked a claim to the site.

In December, Crystal Lake City Council members approved plans allowing Texas Roadhouse to renovate and redesign the building. The plans include installing garage-style doors on the east side of the structure that would open and allow for alfresco dining.

Design changes call for cladding the building with cedar siding and brick, new signage and additional details on the rear the restaurant, according to city documents.

"The Texas Roadhouse plans have been approved by the city council," said Michelle Rentzsch, director of planning and economic development for the city. "The company has its permits and will begin construction soon."

Texas Roadhouse also serves ribs as well as steaks, onion blossoms, and staple hot rolls and baked beans, according to the restaurant menu.
