Corner Bakery Cafe Closes in Crystal Lake

Popular Corner Bakery Cafe in Crystal Lake closes for business.

So long tomato basil soup and double chocolate chip muffins (declared the best ever by my son).

The Corner Bakery Cafe at 815 Cog Circle in Crystal Lake has closed its doors - for good.

Everything inside the store - tables, chairs, booths, counters and stoves has been cleared out. The awnings, signs and patio furniture also were removed.

All that remains is a sign on the swivel door reading, "It's been our pleasure. Thanks for 11 great years."

Corner Bakery guest relations spokesperson Christy Roman confirmed the Crystal Lake restaurant closed Sunday, Nov. 24, due to a "leasing" agreement. Roman said the company typically doesn't disclose additional details when a cafe closes.

For the remainder of 2013 and the first half of 2014, there are no plans to re-locate within the city limits, Roman said.

"But check back next year," she said.

Corner Bakery Cafe specializes in soups, salads, specialty sandwiches like paninis, and, of course, a full-counter spread of baked muffins, bars, cookies, coffee cakes and hand pies.
