Classic Oak Designs Leaves Crystal Lake Building; Bethesda Thrift Shop Moving In

After 22 years in its Crystal Lake location, Classic Oak Designs has sold its building to Bethesda Lutheran Communities.

Have you noticed moving trucks and an empty parking lot recently at Classic Oak Designs in Crystal Lake?

The furniture store at 7606 Route 14, just north of Route 176, has sold its building to Bethesda Lutheran Communities. Bethesda plans to move its Thrift Shop from its current location at 26 Crystal Lake Plaza to the site.

The Crystal Lake City Council has approved Bethesda's project plans and request for a special-use permit. The thrift shop will have a sales area, processing area and donation drop-off door on the side, according to plans.

Classic Oak Designs has been in the 19,830-square-foot store on Route 14 for the past 22 years.

In the meantime, Classic Oak Designs is searching for a new location within the city, according to Michelle Rentzsch, director of planning and economic development for the city.

"They are looking for a location on Route 14 that's in the core (business) area," Rentzsch said. "Bethesda was looking for a building with ownership opportunity."

Classic Oak Designs continues to operate its flagship location in Arlington Heights, 955 E. Rand Rd.

The Bethesda Thrift Shop webpage states the company is aiming for a September grand opening at the new location.
