Chick-Fil-A: FRG Republican Organizing Customer Appreciation Day

Andrew Gasser, of Fox River Grove, is rallying for a customer appreciation day Thursday when the new Chick-Fil-A restaurant opens in Crystal Lake.

With all the controversery swirling around the Chick-Fil-A restaurant chain throughout the country, Crystal Lake's restaurant was left out since it is not scheduled to open until Thursday.

For that reason, Andrew Gasser, a republican precinct committeeman from Fox River Grove, is organizing a special Customer Appreciation Day for the Crystal Lake Chick-Fil-A, which opens Aug. 9, at 4812 Route 14, in front of Menards just west of Route 31.

"Come out and support the grand opening of our very own Chick-Fil-A right here in Crystal Lake," Gasser has posted in a flier and on his website. "All of us have heard about and many participated in a Chick-Fil-A appreciation day. Now we can show our support again by visiting this new business in Crystal Lake."

Gasser is listed as a "conservative republican, Tea Party leaders and proud American" on his website. His flier addresses Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's position on the Chick-Fil-A controversery.

"Mayor Rahm Emmanuel of Chicago said that Chick-Fil-A doesn't represent 'Chicago Values,'" Gasser said. "Well, tell me Mr. Mayor, just who does represent voter fraud, graft and corruption anyways?"

"Chick-Fil-A may not represent Chicago values, but they sure do represent McHenry County values."

The political firestorm regarding the popular chicken franchise started when Chick-Fil-A company president Don Cathy voiced his support for "the traditional family" on the Ken Coleman show. The comments sparked blacklash from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LBGT) advocates and bloggers, according to an article in the Huffington Post.

I'll be there

Careful Rahm might send some bullies from chi town to smack around some folks at the chicken factory
Matt G. August 07, 2012 at 08:05 PM
Yes, please come support a diet rich in sodium and saturated fat and while you're at it, bring your obese little children to come gorge as well. No thanks. Who elected this guy to spend money and time to create to create a "fast-food appreciation" day? I dont care what cause this man thinks he is supporting, this whole thing is just absurd.

This is way more than Dan Cathy  having his own opinion.  Through Chick -Fil-A he has donated millions of dollars to organizations whose main purpose is to block or roll back  civil rights to gay Americans.  He said that supporters of gay marriage have a "prideful and arrogant attitude" and also that they are "inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him".  Isn't  this the same stance taken by Westboro Baptist Church, whose supporters protest at  funerals  claiming that military deaths are punishment to the U.S. for our tolerance of gay people?  That church leader also sent a tweet that the recent shootings at a Sikh temple were the "beautiful work of an angry god" in punishment for the way his group was treated in WIsconsin.  I feel that Cathy has a right to build restaurants wherever he wants, but I do not appreciate being called prideful and arrogant and personallyI will not support a business when profits are used to encourage hate and discrimination against other American citizens.

well said!

Never tried it before and never will!

I boycotted them some time back and the new location won't be getting any of my business either.
Jim August 07, 2012 at 11:57 PM
I am looking forward to going to the new restaurant to support a new business in Crystal Lake. I do not support the views of the chain but I hope this does not turn into a rally for either side. Please just let people enjoy a new establishment without the political twist.
Susan Tuohy August 08, 2012 at 12:08 AM
I figured I have never tried it so I wasn't missing it before and I won't miss it now. I just wish people wouldn't make such a big bally hoo about it. I wish people would just keep their agendas out of everything. I don't believe the same things as Mr. Cathy but everyone is entitled to their own say but I think he should keep it out of his business. I believe he said what he did to drive up his business and now all the followers are flocking like a bunch of idiots. I mean eat there if you like it and that should be the end of it!

Hear, Hear! Why do so many people have to turn everything into a political contest?
Bob August 08, 2012 at 12:50 PM
While we're at it, why don't we support the KKK and the Nazis marching through town. Bigoted CEOs have the right to their twisted beliefs. But in a business environment, they need to keep them to themselves. They have no business in business. As long as bigots run companies like Chick-fil-a, Cracker Barrel, etc. they will never see me as a customer.

Prideful and arrogant? Sounds like a sports fan, a parent, an athlete, a new car owner, a professional, sounds like everyone that enjoys or believes strongly. Since when is that hate speech? I don't get the whole hoopla, hate groups? They are all Christian charities? Is everyone that gives at church on Sunday a hater? I wish people would take a step back and listen to themselves once in awhile. Seems like it's the LBGT is coining exactly what they accuse religion of doing, trying to force feed everyone else their agendas and beliefs. Get over, get on with life. Not everyone believes they way you do....isn't that what made this country great? Multiple beliefs, religions and cultures? Somehow we as a country have lost all tolerance for views other than our own. If you don't like his views, don't go....who the hell cares. If you don't eat fast food, don't go... who the hell cares. If your christain and you like chicken...go and eat your heart out...who cares. We love Chick fil A....we aren't church goers, we have gays in our family, we are republicans and democrats, we will go when we get a chance, BECAUSE we like the food. Btw, my kids aren't obese, fat or lazy. Try keeping them active and burning off the calories, it works pretty well, jag. Boycotting do to religious beliefs is your choice as an American and you have as much right to do that as he does to run his business and support his charities. Get over it already.

Patricia, tell me one legitimate church leader that said the killings at the Sikh temple were as you said, "Beautiful work of an angry god"? Comparing any true christian organization with Westboro Baptist Church is an insult and shows your stupidity. I am not the most religious person, but agree that marriage is between a man and women. I agree; you should not support Chick-Fill-A if you don't agree with them. This is the reason I do not shop at Target, Nike, Amazon, or Starbucks, companies that give to the destruction of the American family by providing funding. Have you ever seen a gay pride parade? If you have you might see where the "prideful and arrogant attitude" comes from.
R.S. August 08, 2012 at 01:43 PM
Bob, you are an ASS, nothing else needs to be said.
babs August 08, 2012 at 02:08 PM
good points and some common sense - thank you
Anthony P. August 08, 2012 at 03:39 PM
Everyone has their own morals and beliefs. Knocking down Cathy is the same as knocking down on the LGBT community. Enough said, everyone should quit their hating. It seems that the media is making a huge deal of this, but no one really gives a crap. Move on! There are bigger fish to fry, people starving, people out of work and people being murdered!
DalaiMama August 08, 2012 at 05:14 PM
Rob--well said! Live and let live. So sick of people claiming they're being denied civil rights. Man has no more right to marry another man than he has to marry his favorite dog. Someone please tell me what is society's benefit in promoting gay marriages? The propogation of our species? Um, no. If you think marriage fraud is bad now, just wait til it gets even harder to detect. If you're gay, that's between you and your god, but try not to shove it down the throats of the rest of us, as if it's perfectly normal--it isn't. My children will grow up knowing that a man is meant to marry a woman, and if one happens to turn out gay (probably as the result of the relentless propaganda of pro-gays), then he will know that he sacrifices the opportunity to marry and reproduce. I'll be at the Chick Fil A tomorrow because i want to try the food, and I believe in the freedom of religion and speech.
Susan Tuohy August 08, 2012 at 07:09 PM
Wow!!! Everyone sure is letting their opinion out! I was not going to respond anymore because the true haters come out even more....but I couldn't let it slide, wish I could but I just can't. DalaiMama-are you for real? I believe in equality for everyone and I can not for the life of me understand some people. You are comparing a man marrying another man as to marrying his favorite dog....there are some people out there in the world who get married and do not want children. And saying gay people try to shove it down the throats of other people is absurd. There are always that 1% of people who have their own agenda. I'm so glad your children will grow up thinking just like you and not thinking for themselves. My daughter who is 9 has more compassion and understanding for other people and that is something you will never know and for that i feel sorry for you. And to comment on the last stupid thing you said that people can turn out gay by relentless propaganda of pro gays is just an example of your limited education into the matter. As I said before everyone is entitled to what they believe but when it borders on evil and hatred that is just not acceptable. @Dan...I think it was wrong that they are trying to deny this restaurant based on a select group stating it is not Chicago's values. I am so glad he stuck to religious beliefs, I will also stick to my beliefs that everyone be treated equally no matter what...now is that so hard people????
Carise August 08, 2012 at 10:27 PM
Can't wait! LOVE that there's an organization out there that stands against the bullying lbgt machine! We will eat chick fil a, I'm 5'9 128 lbs and my children are athletes, Matt & Susan, bet you're the fatties!
Susan Tuohy August 08, 2012 at 10:51 PM
I never said people were fat that ate there. I just said I never tried it so I didn't feel I was missing anything. Really? fatties? You're an idiot!
Susan Tuohy August 08, 2012 at 10:54 PM
I guess I did agree to matt's comment from earlier but I should have said it was the second half of his comment. Since I have never eaten there I don't know what is in it. I was agreeing how absurd it was that this guy was organizing a customer appreciation day...think of something better to do for your village!
DalaiMama August 09, 2012 at 04:01 AM
Susan-- Your use of the words "evil" and "hatred" when describing me is precisely the stereotypical response you are complaining about, right? And just think about if gay marriage were legalized, and your 9 year old daughter has sex education in school. Do you want her exposed to the details of anal sex??? BECAUSE IT WILL HAPPEN. Im all for love and understanding and rainbows and unicorns, but when it comes to my children, I refuse to expose them to sinful and un-natural lifestyles that my religion forbids. Obviously you dont agree, and that's fine... just try to respect my views and Ill respect yours. Name calling, over generalizations, and relentless bullying is not helping your cause.
Susan Tuohy August 09, 2012 at 11:16 AM
I hope gay marriage does get legalized because as I said before I believe in equality. I'm sure you wanted to say more to me because of the views I have but I am sure you held back....I respect your views and I do not have a cause as you might think and bullying? I did not bully in any way. I think you need to read back your response to me and take a long hard look at yourself....from what I see no one in your family is gay because if they were I am sure you would have nothing to do with them. I can not even go back and forth with you anymore because honestly you are not worth my time. I am just glad I do not know your real name because I am hoping I do not know who you are. Make sure you button down the hatches and keep your children away from all the gay people...you might catch it!
