Cancer Patient Sues Trader Joe's for Infection from Salad

The man bought egg white salad at Northbrook's Trader Joes, which he says left him hospitalized.

A man in treatment for leukemia is suing Trader Joe’s as well as the maker of the egg white salad that he bought at the Northbrook store, saying it made him so sick he had to be hospitalized, according to an article in TribLocal.

The Trader Joe’s “egg salad with chives” was later recalled due to a risk of listeria contamination.

The Lake County man has a suppressed immune system due to his chemotherapy and says in court papers that he was infected with listeria, which can be fatal, the article says. He was hospitalized and later developed meningitis from the infection. He is seeking $150,000 in damages.
