Bauer Building Looking for a Tenant

Owner Chris DiFranco is restoring the building while looking for someone to fill the space.

Change has come to the Bauer building in downtown Crystal Lake, located between the and . Work is underway beautifying the building for future tenants.

Chris DiFranco, a veteran of the restaurant business, purchased the building on Nov. 15, 2010.

“I liked the location. The price was right. I liked the history behind it. It’s got great potential,” Franco said.

The condition of the building has been in “tired repair” for quite some time, according to Diana Kenney, executive director of . “They’ve been doing exterior and interior maintenance. I’ve noticed they’ve been repointing bricks and shoring it up a little bit.”

DiFranco is currently looking for a tenant.

“We’ve had a lot of inquiries, but I’m looking to rent the whole space.” DiFranco said.

When asked who his ideal tenant would be, DiFranco said it would be a restaurant. “If you hit the right niche it could be very successful. The demographics are very appealing and it’s in a great location.”

DiFranco has been in the restaurant business for 25 years.

The Bauer building was built in 1914 by H.J. Bauer to house a garage, auto salesroom and repair shop. When stopping by the Bauer building, look for the “flying wheel” design of the cast stone.
