District 47 Holds Bus Open House for Early Childhood, Kindergarten Students

More than 350 parents and children attended the first annual bus open house aimed at getting new students acquainted with school buses and drivers.

The District 47/155 Transportation Department last week held the first annual Open House for incoming early childhood and kindergarten students and their parents.

The Open House, aimed at getting the incoming students familiar with the buses and drivers, consisted of seven stations the kids could visit and receive a stamp on their "Bus Ticket."

Stations included a welcome station, handouts, refreshments, a touch station (where students could see and touch bus safety equipment), an early childhood station (where parents and students could become familiar with the various child safety restraint seating options available), take a bus ride, and The Buster Show.

The two most popular stations were the bus rides for parents and students ,and The Buster Show, where an interactive remote control school bus spoke to the students about School Bus Safety, including how to safely get on the bus, ride the bus, and get off the bus.

About 361 people attended  the open house.
