Sea Level Diving in Crystal Lake Hosts First-Ever Scuba Games

The Scuba Games were held Saturday morning and afternoon at Sea Level Diving, 269 Liberty Road in Crystal Lake.

The first-ever Scuba Games at Sea Level Diving in Crystal Lake gave local snorkelers and scuba divers a great way Saturday to beat the winter doldrums while getting out of the house and into the water.

About 20 participants — all who were either certified in scuba diving or snorkeling — stopped out Saturday to compete in a variety of fun, but competitive and challenging, events in Sea Level Diving's pool, at 269 Liberty Road in Crystal Lake.

There were six teams that participated in 10 different events, which included: a inner-tube fin paddle relay race, the one-fin relay race, the cone-stack relay race,  the underwater PVC puzzle assembly and the obstacle course

President of Sea-Level Diving Arhur Koch researched online to figure out the different races and events. Koch, who is also a PADI master diver and trainer, checked online with different scuba shops to see what types of races they used in hosting similar events.

Koch and another staff member tested out all of the events before Saturday's Scuba Games. In trying out the three-legged race, which required participants to walk/race underwater, Koch said: "We were laughing so hard our masks were filling up with water."
