Park District Plans To Get Your Kids Active

Make summer plans for your children this summer with the Cary Park District.

Track & Field Skills Camp

This camp is for young athletes who would like to learn or improve their skills in track and field. Athletes will focus on warm-up, running form, and learn techniques for long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, hurdles, relays, and sprint starts. All levels of ability are welcome. Please wear athletic attire, tennis shoes, and bring a water bottle. This camp is for children in grades 3rd – 8th and meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 4 – 27 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Community Center. Registration is $69 (n/r $104).

Flag Football

Make new friends, exercise, and learn the game in a program that focuses on basic mechanics, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. Flag Football meets on Tuesday and Thursday, June 12 – July 26 (no class 7/3 and 7/5) at Lions Park. Class for children ages 7 – 9 meets from 3:00 – 4:00 pm and class for children ages 10 – 12 meets from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Registration is $60 (n/r $90).

Mighty Kickers

Introduce your child to the sport of soccer. Children will run, kick, and learn the game. This fun program will allow your child to release energy, make friends, and keep moving. Each child will receive a T-shirt and must bring shin guards. Mighty Kickers is for children ages 3 – 5 years and meets on Thursdays, June 14 – July 19 from 9:00 – 10:00 am at Lions Park. Registration is $49 (n/r $74).

 

Art Camp

Jaycee Park is a great outdoor setting to have fun and be creative. Paints, glues, pastels, and more will be available to create beautiful works of art. This class is for children ages 5 – 8 years. Two sessions are offered with different projects presented in each session: Wednesday and Thursday, June 13 – 14 and Wednesday and Thursday, June 20 – 21. Both sessions meet from 9:00 – 11:30 am at Jaycee Park. Registration is $30 (n/r $45) per session.

 

Zany Brainy Writing Workshop

This workshop offers children an opportunity to express themselves and find their voice in writing. It’s perfect for children who are struggling or who want to become better writers. This is a stress-free workshop where children will find writing to be fun. Please bring a composition notebook and pencil to each class. This workshop is for children ages 6 – 12 years and meets on Tuesdays, June 12 – July 3 from 3:00 – 3:55 pm at the Community Center. Registration fee is $75 (n/r $113).

 

Dramatic Debut

Let your child’s imagination run wild with the world of drama! Through telling stories and playing games, children will develop self-awareness, self-confidence, creativity, and group cooperation. This class is for children ages 4 – 5 years and meets on Mondays, June 11 – July 2 from 9:30 – 10:15 am at the Community Center. Registration is $32 (n/r $48).

Kids in the Kitchen

Measure, chop, and mix to create brunch, lunch, and desserts. Kids will use the stove top, oven, and microwave to make delicious meals while learning kitchen safety and cooking skills. Each child will bring home a recipe book of meals made in class so he or she can continue the fun at home. Kids in the Kitchen is for children ages 7 – 11 years and meets Wednesday – Friday, June 20 – 22 from 12:15 – 1:45 pm at the Community Center. Registration is $36 (n/r $54).

 

Sticky Fingers

Enjoy time outdoors with your child while exploring art through paints, glues, play dough, shaving cream and more. Toddlers will have fun exploring art while developing hand-eye coordination and small motor skills. This class is for children ages 2 – 3 years with parent and meets Friday, June 15 – 29 from 9:30 – 10:15 am at Jaycee Park. Registration is $25 (n/r $38).

 

Tiny Tots Camp

Are you looking for a camp experience for your young child? Fun, hands-on games, crafts, and activities will fill the morning! Your child will gain independence, make friend, and work on those important social and motor skills. Tiny Tots Camp is for children ages 2 – 3 years and meets from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the Community Center. Session 1 is held Tuesday – Thursday, May 29 – 31. Session 2 is held June 5 – 7. Registration is $29 (n/r $44) per session.
