Local Artists to Display Work at Dole Mansion

The exhibition will be held throughout November at the Crystal Lake mansion.

Diane Morino's opinion of art is clear: it's her passion.

"I love art," said the Barrington resident. "This is something that's inside of (artists). We just want to create."

Morino and two fellow artists — who are all classmates at the — will display their art at the in next month. The art will be displayed from Nov. 1 to Nov. 21, and a special reception is slated from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 4.

"It's very gratifying to have other people appreciate what you made," said award-winning artist Lynn Miller of Lake Zurich. "Producing art is pretty solitary. It's pretty introspective. It's nice to talk to people about what they think of your art."

Miller, who specializes in pastels and watercolor, will display 25 of her paintings in the Dole Mansion's Sage Gallery.

"I was looking for venues to display my work and another artist suggested the Dole Mansion," said Miller. She submitted a CD of her art, along with her bio. It took about a year to book the show.

In the meantime, Linda Berk of Huntley had toured the Dole Mansion and discovered that art shows are held there. Berk and Morino started talking about the possibility of displaying their art at the mansion and decided they'd like to give it a try. By coincidence, Berk, Morino and Miller will have their art on display at the same time. Berk and Morino will show off about 20 paintings total in the Dole Mansion's lobby for the "Faces & Places" category.

"I've been painting for 20 years, on and off," said Berk. She started painting as a child and took classes, but it has just been within the past couple of years that she has shown her art in different venues.

Neither she nor Morino are nervous about displaying their paintings.

"You learn from critiquing," said Morino. "You have to develop a thick skin if you want to be an artist."

The Nov. 4 reception at the Dole Mansion will feature live music and refreshments. The Dole Mansion is located at 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. For more information, call 1-815-455-8000 or visit www.lakesidelegacy.org.
