Get Out: Summer Sunset Festival, Last Days at the Beach, Vigil for Overdose Awareness




It's the last official weekend of the Summer 2013. 

You can spend it at the beach, the movies, or enjoying a plethora of activities at the 13th Annual Summer Sunset Festival in Lake in the Hills. After scorching temperatures move out Friday afternoon, the rest of the weekend promises to be very summer-like. 

Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Dr., Crystal Lake (open 9 a.m. to dusk) and the beach at Three Oaks Recreation Area (open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), 5517 Route 14, Crystal Lake, will be open through Monday, Sept. 2. West Beach is already closed for the season. 

It's also the last swimming weekend at Cary Community Pool, 255 Briargate Rd., Cary. Visit the Cary Park District webpage for Labor Day weekend pool hours. 


Summer Sunset Festival: 13th Annual Celebration is This Weekend

Summer Sunset Festival has packed in food, beverages, a first-ever wine tasting event, carnival rides, a parade, craft show, fireworks finale and more. The fest is held at Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Rd., Lake in the Hills. Click on the story link for more information.


Take a Stand, The Other Side Host Vigil for Overdose Awareness Day

Take a Stand, based in Lake Zurich, and The Other Side, a sober bar in Crystal Lake, will hold a joint candlelight vigil on Saturday at Barbara Key Park in Lake in the Hills. The event is free and open to the public. Bring a photograph of someone you know impacted by drug abuse.
