The featured exhibit in the Sage Gallery by the Lakes Region Watercolor Guild is titled "Bright Ideas". The purpose of this guild is to enhance, enrich and further work in watercolor, and to promote a better understanding of creative art. The guild hosts monthly meetings that feature demonstrations by many local and national artists some of whom are members of the guild. At one meeting each year slides are shown of all the paintings included in the annual National Transparent Watercolor Society. Many of the guild members belong to this prestigious group. The guild welcomes new members and urges anyone interested in watercolor, whether as a painter or simply art lover, to attend the meetings. The group has grown and lasting friendships made through members' exchange of ideas and knowledge of the wonderful world of watercolor. Meetings are held September thru May on the second Thursday of the month at State Bank of the Lakes located at 50 Commerce Drive in Grayslake, IL. The Dole Gallery exhibit in oil paint is titled "Faces & Places II" by artists Linda Berk, Diane Morino, and Maryann Pailey. The trio of artists are from Huntley, Barrington, and Kildeer and paint together at Main Street Art Center in Lake Zurich, IL. Each artist are members of several regional art leagues and their work appears in private collections, galleries and juried exhibits. This exhibit includes paintings of landscapes inspired by their travels. Some of the images also incorporate figures and scenes from their travels and daily lives. Linda Berk said, "My passion is putting my life experiences on canvas. Using oil as my medium, I invite others to explore these experiences through the figures and landscapes that pervade most of my work. The energetic movement of color and contrast gently guides the viewer through my past journeys and memories, making them alive once again. I take great pride and joy in the expressiveness of my art and the hint of Asian and other cultures that have influenced my work over the years. My paintings are an extension of my soul and if I have evoked emotion or thoughtfulness within others, then I have accomplished my goal as an artist." Maryann Paliey is a former middle school teacher and her younger daughter encouraged her to take classes to purse her interest in oils. Little did Maryanne know that her daughters encouragement would lead to a second career. In 2008, Maryann was commissioned to create a large painting for Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer, IL. Diane Morino said, "I like to tell visual stories through my paintings, they are a diary of my thoughts, expressions, feelings captured on canvass."
