The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for McHenry County from 8 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a winter weather advisory for McHenry County from 8 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

The advisory calls for mixed snow, sleet and freezing rain. Brief rain, or freezing rain mixed with sleet, is expected for late Saturday afternoon, but not expected to last long enough to cause travel problems, the advisory states.

However, more widespread snow possibly mixed with sleet at times will move into the area from the southwest between 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday evening. Slippery road conditions are possible as 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulate from the mid-evening into the overnight hours, according to the NWS.

Snowfall is expected to diminish to spotty freezing drizzle by 3 a.m. and continue until mid-morning Sunday, the advisory states.

Other affected counties under the advisory include Lake, Kane, Cook, Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb.
