Tornado Watch Issued for McHenry County Until 3 a.m.; Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Residents should be alert for strong storms through Monday morning.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. As of 9:30 p.m. no funnel clouds or tornadic activity had been reported.

At 9:22 p.m., the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the following areas until 10:30 p.m.:

  • McHenry County
  • Eastern Boone County
  • Northern Cook County
  • Eastern DeKalb County
  • DuPage County
  • Kane County
  • Northern Kendall County
  • Lake County
  • Northwestern Will County

At 9:18 p.m. a line of severe thunderstorms was located along a line extending from Clinton to Hampshire to Somonauk and moving east at 35 mph, the NWS stated.

The storms are accompanied by quarter size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph. Severe thunderstorms will be near Harvard around 9:30 p.m., Plano and Huntley around 9:35 p.m., Woodstock at 9:40 p.m., and Lakewood at about 9:45 p.m.
