Route 31 Road Project Wraps Up, Lanes Reopen

All lanes along Route 31, Klasen Road and Virginia Road in Algonquin will reopen Thursday as the widening project nears completion.

Lanes will reopen in coming days for an area road project that has been slowing traffic in the area for months.

The McHenry County Division of Transportation announced Wednesday the Illinois Route 31 at Klasen and Virginia Roads widening and reconstruction project is near completion and all lanes will reopen on Thursday, according to a McHenry County DOT press release. Motorists should expect some delays Thursday as traffic signals get turned on.

There will still be intermittent lane closures following Thursday through mid-December as a small amount of work continues on the road project.

The construction project includes work to a 1.34-mile stretch along Route 31 and improvements to the intersections of Route 31 and Klasen Road and Route 31 and Virginia Road. The realignment of Virginia Road also was completed with efforts to increase safety at the intersection of IL 31.

Portions of the roadways as part of the project have been closed since June.

I actually have found that traffic is moving faster through this construction zone. Especially when they only had 1 of the 2 lights on. Once they put both lights on, traffic started backing up again because of the lights.
