Randall Oaks Peacock Dies After Being Exposed to Cold

Blue, a peacock at the Randall Oaks Barnyard Zoo in West Dundee, died after escaping from a heated building Tuesday and being exposed to frigid temperatures for 90 minutes before he was rescued from the top of a 60-foot pine tree, according to the Daily Herald.

Following his rescue, a veterinarian administered antibiotics and employees worked to keep Blue warm but Blue, who was 5 years old and spent his entire life at the zoo, died overnight "likely from fluid that built up in his lungs from being outside too long," according to the article.

The Randall Oaks Barnyard Zoo is located at 1180 N. Randall Road in West Dundee and is run by the Dundee Township Park District
