New Prairie Trail Bridge Near Meyer Road Installed Monday

New bridge on Prairie Trail in Algonquin is a welcome sight for area cyclists.

Good news for bikers!

A long-awaited bridge for the Prairie Trail arrived Monday morning for installation, said Wendy Kummerer, communications spokesperson for McHenry County Conservation District.

The bridge will be installed north of the Meyer Road parking lot (which is accessible from Algonquin Road near the U.S. Post Office).

"Staff will open the trail for through traffic on Thursday morning," Kummerer said in a news release.

"The area south of Algonquin road still has some closures due to work on the Algonquin Bypass."

This past summer has been a tough one on area cyclists. The trail has been closed to through-traffic between the bridge section near the Meyer Road parking lot and Route 31. Due to the Western Bypass construction, there has been no safe detour routes available.
