September brings fall festivals, back-to-school celebrations and memorials commerating 9/11.

Why go: The holds a Back to School Family Night Bash. Kids and families can celebrate (or commiserate) the beginning of the school year with activities including archery, frisbee golf, seminars with the nature specialist, carnival games, face painting, swimming, a free carmel apple and more.

Why go: This local outdoor festival features classic fall activities, including hay rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, pumpkin patch, crafts and more. Fun for the whole family!

Why go: This annual event pits the Cary Fire Protection District against neighboring fire departments in competitions with the fire department’s hoses and equipment. Food and drinks are available for purchase as well, with all proceeds benefiting the Cary Firefighters Association’s Scholarship and Community Needs program.

Why go: Singers Brad Cole and Jeff Libman, a.k.a. Check With Lucy, will perform at this outdoor concert series highlighting the best local talent. The band plays original songs with an “up-tempo new folk sound.”

Where/When: Barrington Memorial Park, Lincoln Avenue & Hough St., Barrington. Sunday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 a.m.
Why go: Commerate this momenteous day in American history at Barrington Memorial Park. Representative Peter Roskam will be the keynote speaker at this rememberence ceremony. Seating is available starting at 8:15 a.m.

Where/When: James C. Dhamer Town Square, Church St. & E. Main St., Huntley. Sunday, Sept. 11, at noon.
Why go: Take an hour out of your Sunday to remember September 11 at James C. Dhamer Town Square in Huntley. Featured speakers include religious leaders and the Huntley Village President Charles Sass. Members of Huntley’s American Legion Hall, the Huntley Fire Department and the Huntley Police Department will also be in attendance, and Tom Nash will perform Taps.
