Get Out: Cary Show, Dog Wash, Meat Raffle

One-of-a-kind charity and entertainment events taking place this weekend include a play production in a warehouse, a kayak/vegetable relay race and the famous meat raffle.

Where/When: , 340 Lageschulte St., Barrington. Saturday, August 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.         

Why go: The Doghouse of Barrington holds their 4th Annual Charity Dog Wash to benefit Animal House Shelter. Take your dogs for a complimentary dog bath, towel dry, nail trim and use of their indoor playground (donations welcome and will benefit the charity.) Plus Animal House will bring dogs available for adoptions if you are looking for a new furry friend.

Where/When: CYT Warehouse, 755 Industrial Drive, Cary. Saturday, August 27 at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.  

Why go: This unique show takes the audience on a physical and emotional journey through six ten-minute plays staged in a warehouse. There will also be live music and an art show.

Where/When: , 600 Harvest Gate, Lake in the Hills. Saturday, August 27 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  

Why go: Billy Croft and the 5 Alarm Band will finally get to perform for locals – this concert was rescheduled from July 23. Bring your blanket or lawnchair and enjoy the outdoor performance. Food and drink sales begin at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. 

Pricing: Free.  

 



Where/When: , 6330 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake. Sunday, August 28 at 9 a.m.  

Why go: Baird and Warner holds their 3rd annual Motorcycle Charity Ride to benefit the Food Pantries of Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and Carpentersville. All bikes are welcome, and a donation of a non-perishable food item will be greatly appreciated.

Where/When: Twin Lakes Recreation Area, 1200 E. Twin Lakes Drive, Palatine. Sunday, August 28 at 9 a.m.         

Why go: Smart Farm holds their unparalleled Floating Zucchini Kayak Relay Race at Twin Lakes. Each team member (2-4 people per team) will race to cross the lake, find a vegetable and bring it back to shore. Then the team must create a dish with the items. Its good healthy fun!

Pricing: $60 per team (includes kayak rental and safety vests,) teams must register by August 26 at 12 p.m. To register online, click here.

 



Where/When: , 1320 S. Main St., Algonquin. Sunday, August 28 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.            

Why go: Its that time again! The famous Meat Raffle is back, just in time for Labor Day weekend. Steaks, burgers, brats, sausages, hot dogs, seafood and more will all be up for grabs, plus attendants can win door prizes or enter the 50/50 raffle. Proceeds benefit the Lori Komes Medical Fund, which goes to support the local resident’s medical bills.

Pricing: Tickets $2, available now at the Riverview Restaurant or the day of the raffle.
