Get Out: Car Show, Green Fair, Pet Fest

Fairs and festivals this weekend have a variety of themes including health, green living, arts and crafts, pets and classic cars.



Where/When: , 525 Congress Parkway, Crystal Lake. Saturday, September 17 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.            

Why go: Take care of yourself while still watching your wallet – Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital holds free health screenings, raffles, giveaways and more at their 3rd Annual Health Fair. Adults can register for a number of screenings, including blood pressure, body mass index, cardiac, lipid panel, diabetes, prostate cancer and more. To register for screenings call 1-800-3-ADVOCATE and mention class code 3N25.

Where/When: Citizens for Conservation’s Office, 359 W. Highway 22, Lake Barrington. Saturday, September 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.     

Why go: Citizens for Conservation holds their Fall Native Tree and Shrub Sale and Green Fair. Green vendors will be on hand to answer questions and hold seminars including how to build a rain garden and how to grow a healthy lawn without chemicals. Shrubs, trees, environmentally-themed books and birdfeeders will also be available for purchase. 

Pricing: Free admission. 

 



Where/When: , 1700 S. Randall Road, Algonquin. Saturday, September 17 from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.            

Why go: Chicago Rocker Magazine’s Best New Band of 2011, WildChild, performs at the Thirsty Whale in Algonquin. The band performs high-energy covers from Kiss, Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses, Kings of Leon, The Beastie Boys, The Killers, Usher and more.  

Pricing: Free admission.   

 



Where/When: Crystal Lake Chevrolet, 5220 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake. Sunday, September 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.               

Why go: Come see the classic and contemporary Chevrolets and Corvettes at the Annual Car Show sponsored by Sunburst Corvette Club and Crystal Lake Chevrolet. There is free admission for spectators, plus raffles, a silent auction, refreshments, door prizes and other entertainment.

Where/When: , 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake. Sunday, September 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.     

Why go: Enjoy shopping or browsing the unique craft booths at Crystal Lake’s Arts & Crafts Bazaar. This event is held at Main Beach. 

Pricing: Free admission.  

 



Where/When: , 431 Walkup Road, Crystal Lake. Sunday, September 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.     

Why go: Bring the whole family to Veteran Acres Park for the 12th Annual Paws in the Park Walk & Pet Fest, to benefit Helping Paws Animal Shelter in Woodstock. The fun includes a 1-mile walk, pet blessings, kids’ activities, pet games, “Pawcasso” pet painting, raffles, pet vendors and more. 

Pricing: $20 in advance (register at www.pawsintheparkwalk.com,) $30 the day of the event. Pledges and donations of any amount also welcome.
