Donations Needed for Blood Drive at Holy Cross Lutheran Church

A blood drive to fill a critical shortage will be held Monday from 3:30 to 7:30 pm at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

The Human Care Ministry of Holy Cross Lutheran Church is sponsoring a blood drive this afternoon. The drive will benefit Aurora Heartland Blood Centers. Each unit of blood can potentially save three lives.

The need for donations is especially critical following the holidays and recent weather. Several blood drives were cancelled due to the blizzard earlier this month. “They’re down about 2000 units,” Barb Molzer, a member of the Human Care Ministry, said.

The goal that Heartland Blood Centers gave St. John’s is 31 units, but Molzer would like to see up to 40 donations. “We can’t make blood,” she said, “We need donations.”

The first appointment is at 3:30, and they will stop taking walk-ins at 7:15. Donating a unit of blood takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour for the whole process. Walk-ins are always welcome. Each donor will receive a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card as a thank you.

Monday’s blood drive is one of two that the church has held annually for about the last fifteen years. The next drive will be in August.
