ACT Practice Test with Kaplan

A fully proctored ACT test given at the Crystal Lake Public Library will show students what to expect in a test-like environment. Students will receive a comprehensive analysis of their performance on the test, detailing individual strengths and weaknesses during the ACT Test Strategies Workshop (February 15). Read, Write and Win Kickoff

Join us at the Crystal Lake Public Library for the kickoff of the 9th annual Read, Write and Win writing contest. Children in grades 3-5 can choose to read and write a new ending to either Wonder by R.J. Palacio or Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu or read and create a new illustrated essay ending to Summer Camp Science Mysteries #1: In Search of the Fog Zombie by Lynda Beauregard. Teens in grades 6-8 can choose to read and write a new ending to either The Apothecaryby Maile Meloy or Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead or read and create a new illustrated essay ending to Pandemonium by Chris Wooding. The Library will have copies of this year’s books available to check out and will explain the details you will need to enter. All children in public, parochial and home school, in grades 3-8 are welcome. Read, Write and Win is cosponsored by the Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers, School District 47 and McHenry County College.

Bicycling through Peru: From the Pacific Ocean to the Amazon River

Bob Olsen, owner of Wheel Werks Custom Bikes in Crystal Lake, will be reliving stories from his bicycle tour across Peru with Race Across America legend Lon Haldeman at the Crystal Lake Public Library. This is about more than just riding the bike, it’s also about their humanitarian projects supported by cyclists from across the United States.

Zentangle

There is only half a day of school on February 14. Spend the second half of your day at the Crystal Lake Public Library learning about the new art form called zentangle. Learn the basics of zentangle and leave with a finished piece of artwork. The Library will supply all the materials you will need. This program is for children in grades 4 through 8.Registration is required.
ACT Test Strategies Workshop

During this one-hour workshop at the Crystal Lake Public Library, both parents and students can learn how to score higher on admissions tests using key Kaplan strategies. The format and content of the test are explored, including ways to take advantage of test format to maximize efficiency on the exam. Various question types are reviewed and answered and students and parents are given a study plan for success. This is an ideal follow-up seminar to a practice test. Registration required.
