Crystal Lake Centennial Kick-Off Fest Provides Food, Fun, Fireworks

The Crystal Lake Centennial Kick-Off Festival provided everything from food to fireworks this past weekend at Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake.

The fest marked the start of a yearlong celebration marking Crystal Lake's 100th year of incorporation. The city turns 99 today, Sept. 23. Upcoming Centennial events aim to highlight Crystal Lake's history and heritage, while simultaneously commemorating 100 years of legacy.

The festivities this past weekend included everything from formal presentations to and from the Crystal Lake City Council members to free-spirited fun involving carnival rides, fireworks over Three Oaks Recreation Area, plenty of food and live band entertainment.

Other "celebrity appearances" included Cookie the Clown, the Amazing Wizzo, the Star Wars Tuskin Raiders characters and Tommy Hawk the Blackhawks mascot.
