Cary Farmers Market To Open This Summer

The new farmers market will begin June 5 and run through Oct. 9

Fresh produce is coming this summer. Village of Cary, Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cary Farmers Committee have been working together to make this project happen.

Executive Director of the, Suzanne Corr said “The community has been asking and inquiring about the possibility of a farmers market for some time and we have been investigating the project for over a year getting input from some regional farmers who participate in such events.  Many agree that a market in Cary is an attractive proposition and would be well-received.”

Location of the new market will be visible on Route 14 and heavily traveled by area residents driving from Crystal Lake to Barrington and beyond.

The market's location is unique because it’s adjacent to community baseball fields near Maplewood, which will be filled this summer with youth baseball games throughout the summer ensuring access and awareness to local families.

Corr said, “A farmers market creates another opportunity for local residents to do business in our own community. While farmers may come from neighboring areas, it brings residents through important business districts.”

“It creates an event and a reason to spend time and money in our community. It brings residents together and adds another hometown style event that adds to the quality of life here. And it’s green, when you can do all of your shopping locally its good for residents and the environment,” said Corr.

The chamber hopes to attract fresh produce, vegetables and fruit, flowers, specialty items like oils, baked goods, olives, cheeses and more.

The farmers market idea is still fairly new but Corr said, “We are just starting to spread the word but our early indication is that the community is excited about this prospect.”
