Cary Farmers Market Opens Sunday

Farmers market opens for the season in the north Metra commuter parking lot near High Road and Main Street.

Ah, a sure sign of summer! The Cary Farmers Market is set to open for the season this Sunday in the north Metra commuter parking lot near High Road and West Main Street in downtown Cary. Nearly 25 vendors will be present on opening day, featuring a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, baked goods, herbs, flowers, plants and much more, according to Cary Grove Area Chamber executive director Suzanne Corr. Cary Farmers Market is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday from June 2 through Sept. 29.  “The Cary Farmers Market has been one of the most rewarding community events the Chamber has ever initiated,” Corr said. “Last season we received many positive responses and accolades for bringing the market to the community. The market was attracting over 1,500 shoppers each week.” Throughout the season the market selection varies, but items have included fresh vegetables such as corn, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, eggplant, beets, squash,  radishes, peas, green beans, spinach, and several varieties of tomatoes; organic produce, fresh fruits such as apples, peaches, berries, several varieties of peaches, plums, nectarines, raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries;  baked goods such as  pies, breads, cookies, muffins, and cupcakes; and specialty items such as jellies, salad dressings, herbs, spices, flowers and plants, and more.  On the first Sunday of each month the market features special events, outdoor music and extra vendors.  Free Chamber shopping bags will be given to the first 100 shoppers, free bags of groceries will be raffled off, and there will be outdoor music on June 2, July 7, August 4 and September 1. --------------------------------------------- The Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce is an organization of over 500 local business members and professionals, community and non-profit groups and area leaders dedicated to a prosperous local economy and a high quality of life for area residents.  The Chamber provides programs and resources to help local business succeed and coordinates community events.  For information, visit the chamber website at www.carygrovechamber.com, or call (847) 639-2800.  The Chamber has a business and community resource center at their offices at 445 Park Avenue, Cary.
