Competition Will Be First-Rate at the 5th Annual Walt Herrick, Sr. Memorial Men's Prize Money Tennis Tournament

The Racket Club of Crystal Lake, Illinois is excited to host the 5th annual Walt Herrick, Sr. Memorial Foundation Men’s Open prize money tournament on Friday, January 3- Sunday, January 5, 2014.  In keeping with the vision of one of the Club’s founders, the late Walt Herrick, Sr., the event raises funds toward tennis lessons for deserving boys and girls of the local community.  Every year, the Foundation awards Racket Club tennis instructional scholarships for applicants who demonstrate dedication on and off the court to tennis, academics, and the improvement of their surroundings.

This year’s Men’s Open features its largest-ever total prize money of $5,000, with $2,000 going to the winner of the singles division and $800 being split among the doubles winners.  Competition is first-rate with regional touring pros, teaching pros, top past & present collegiate players, and even nationally-ranked high school players battling it out.  Last year’s winner, Dennis Nevolo, is currently ranked 493 on the ATP World Tour and playing events throughout the country as he pursues his dream of breaking into the world’s top 100.  With a choice of courtside or clubhouse window seating, spectators receive the rare privilege of viewing professional tennis up close in McHenry County.  For those who may not have ever had such an opportunity, the speed and sound of the action has to be seen to be believed!
