Crystal Lake School District 47 has the largest student enrollment in McHenry County with slightly more than 9,000 students. The students are housed in 12 different schools; nine elementary and three middle schools. The district also has a preschool with more than 100 children enrolled.
The district began in 1936 when Leon Lundahl became superintendent of the elementary school district.
Donn Mendoza currently serves as the superintendent.
